BarcaFeed Privacy Policy
BarcaFeed is designed to work without reader accounts or unnecessary personal information. You can browse the feed, use Latest, Top and Popular and open publisher articles without providing your name, email address or creating a profile.
We process only information reasonably required to operate, secure and improve BarcaFeed, understand aggregate use of the feed and respond when someone contacts us.
Limited technical information
When you access BarcaFeed, normal web infrastructure may process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device information, requested URL, date and time of the request, referring page, response status and security or error information. This information may appear in web-server, hosting or security logs and is used to deliver the website, diagnose problems, prevent abuse and maintain service security.
If you contact BarcaFeed by email, we process the contact details and information you provide in order to respond to your request and keep appropriate records of the communication.
Where personal data is processed for normal service operation and security, the legal basis will generally be BarcaFeed’s legitimate interests in operating and protecting the service, or compliance with a legal obligation where applicable.
Analytics measurement with your choice
BarcaFeed uses Google Analytics 4 for standard site measurement such as visits, page usage, acquisition and referrers, and device or browser reporting. This standard measurement operates independently of the optional detailed-analytics preference. Search text is removed from measured page addresses, while supplied campaign parameters and the available referrer remain part of the normal page-view lifecycle.
Choosing “Allow analytics” enables additional BarcaFeed product-interaction measurement such as publisher article opens, Feed depth, filters and Search use. Declining leaves those detailed events disabled while standard Google Analytics measurement continues. The preference is stored so BarcaFeed does not repeatedly ask. Google advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalization remain denied in every preference state, and Google Signals remains disabled.
BarcaFeed does not add a custom user ID, create a fingerprint, send raw Search text, or use this implementation to build advertising profiles. Separately, BarcaFeed records limited article-opening activity to support Top and Popular and prevent obvious repeated-click inflation. That first-party ranking system is separate from Google Analytics and is designed not to store a raw browser identifier or IP address in the article-click record.
Analytics preference: Not selected.
Only for specific functions
BarcaFeed may store limited information in your browser to remember your light or dark theme, your analytics choice, or to support privacy-conscious click deduplication. The analytics choice is stored so BarcaFeed does not repeatedly ask you.
You can use “Change analytics preference” above to allow, decline or reset analytics. You can also remove locally stored BarcaFeed information through your browser settings.
If the technical implementation of a feature changes, this Privacy notice will be updated accordingly.
Publisher sites have their own privacy practices
BarcaFeed headlines link directly to websites operated by third-party publishers. When you follow one of those links, you leave BarcaFeed and the destination publisher’s own privacy policy, cookies, analytics, advertising and terms apply.
BarcaFeed does not control how those third-party websites process information.
BarcaFeed may also rely on infrastructure providers necessary to host, secure and operate the service. Such providers may process limited technical data on our behalf subject to their respective contractual and legal obligations.
Data is not kept longer than necessary
Technical, security and analytics information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including operating the service, producing short-term rankings, investigating errors, preventing abuse and meeting applicable legal requirements.
BarcaFeed uses reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or loss. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so the service is designed to minimise unnecessary collection in the first place.
Privacy questions and requests
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may have rights relating to personal data processed about you, including rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and data portability, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data-protection authority.
Because some BarcaFeed analytics are deliberately pseudonymous or aggregated, BarcaFeed may not always be able to associate particular records with an identifiable individual.
